Obesity is a chronic disorder that can lead to other health problems, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea and some cancers. Due to evolution, our bodies are wired to protect weight and there is also a strong genetic predisposition to the development of obesity which is why obesity can be difficult to treat. When other medically supervised methods have failed, weight-loss surgery can offer an effective way to lose weight and keep it off.
